Welcome
Welcome to the Atlanta site for the Building Enclosure Council (BEC) -- a network of Building Enclosure Councils in major cities across the United States. The BECs are charged with providing a forum for the construction industry on the crucial area of building enclosures. Through meetings and information resources, the BECs will provide valuable information on successful building enclosure design.
AIA ATLANTA AND THE BUILDING ENCLOSURE COUNCIL
The Building Enclosure Council of Atlanta (BEC-Atlanta) is a sub-committee of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Architects cooperating with the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) www.nibs.org and the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) www.bec-national.org.
The NIBS was formed by congress as an interface between the government and the private sector on issues of building science and technology. The BETEC is a council of the NIBS. The BETEC is also known as BEC-National. BEC-Atlanta (on a regional scale) will promote and encourage discussion, training, education, technology transfer, the exchange of information about local issues and cases, relevant weather conditions and all matters concerning building enclosures and the related science. More information regarding the mission and focus of BETEC and implications of the new administration are included in a BEC Whitepaper and a letter to congress urging the reduction of energy use in existing buildings.
Membership is open to all. Contact John Derucki at 678-947-8505 or email: johnderucki@deruckiconstruction.com
Organizational Format Building Enclosure Council – Atlanta
The council is research based and holds monthly roundtable discussions of pertinent building enclosure topics and the science that affects them.
Quarterly topics are selected by the membership and assigned a champion to organize and lead the roundtables. Summaries of the research, roundtable discussions and corresponding written documents are intended to be published and shared with all interested parties. All members are invited to contribute to each topic.
Quarterly topics are culminated with workshops from invited guests and are sponsored in association with the AIA.
